When you think of Russia, fur coats and excessive vodka drinking normally spring into the stereotypical mind of us Brits. Well here is another fact to make you look a bit clever in the pub on Friday – Russia’s No.1 DJ is no other than Bobina, as voted for in the 2008 Russian Dance Music Awards!
Slow is the new single to be unleashed from Maelstrom and the sharp-eyed amongst you will immediately spot the basis being from a tune by the queen of disco-tech-pop, Kylie.
There’s a trailer-load of mixes here for every palette leading with Bobina’s original mixes that fuse house, electro and whirring electric guitars for a dance-rock ride. Shifted Reality rolls on the electronic pressure for a synthy house workout with vocal and dub versions. 4 Mal go for a proggier, trance edged version, keeping it electric but adding a sparkling riff. They also offer up a dub.
Fellow Russian Grad takes us into more elctro-house territory with a more twisted mix that’s been working his big rooms from Moscow to St.Pete’s. Space cadet Cosmonaut goes for a breaks driven trance riffed version excursion. Rounding it off is Feel with a no nonsense tough trance, acid mash sound.
