Erick Morillo, Sasha, Method Man and Plump DJs confirm new shows at matter
Techno icon Sasha returns for the matter on Saturday 6th March for his first appearance at the venue since late-2008. The boundary-pushing DJ and producer will team up with matter’s in house technical team to present a headline DJ set unlike any he’s performed before, with visuals from Montreal artists Picnic Electronic and matter’s in-house graphic geniuses the Pixel Addicts. Joining the ‘Involver’ star on the night will be Room 2 hosts Aeroplane, DJ Three, Charlie May presenting his new live show and matter resident Paul Woolford.
Friday 19th March will see the Plump DJs on concierge duties as the doors open on their Grand Hotel: special live guests for the inaugural night of the Plumps matter 2010 will be Vitalic, returning to his favourite London venue accompanied by his spectacular A/V stage show once again, and Japanese Popstars, who last rocked the venue on matter’s birthday weekend. Room 2 will be under the stewardship of Kiss 100’s Joe Ransom, who’ll play host to guest DJ sets from Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, Riva Starr and Duke Dumont. The following night will welcome two matter favourites back for the first time since October, when Josh Wink welcomes Dubfire’s SCI+TEC imprint to celebrate 15 years of Wink’s Ovum label.
April kicks off with a nigh-on-foolish epic Easter weekend, with a relentless four-night schedule of some of the venue’s biggest residencies: John Digweed, Danny Howells and Guy J kick things off with Bedrock’s annual Easter rumpus on Thursday 1st April; Andy C and Sub Focus headline the return of RAM on Friday 2nd April; Sven Väth and very special guests are back for more Cocoon London action on Saturday 3rd April; and the Circo Loco gang preview the hedonistic delights of their summer 2010 season on Sunday 4th April.
Another matter debut awaits on Saturday April 17th, global superstar and bona fide house music legend Erick Morillo will be making his matter debut when he brings his world famous Subliminal Sessions to the venue for the very first time. With Subliminal entering its thirteenth year since being founded by Morillo in 1997, the past year or so has seen the DJ/producer and his label hitting new heights, with the continued success of his iconic Pacha residencies in Ibiza, Barcelona and New York and a world-spanning touring schedule as befitting one of the most in demand DJs in the world. Morillo returns to London for the first time this year for a trademark extended set in matter’s main room to celebrate his birthday, with support coming from the Swedish House Mafia’s Sebastian Ingrosso and matter resident Yousef.
Amongst all the club night activity, matter will also feature two live concerts in early April, with Method Man and Wu Tang cohorts DJ Mathematics, Streetlife and Cilvaringz performing live on Wednesday 7th April, and legendary disco diva Candi Staton taking to the matter stage on Saturday 10th April, supported by UK gospel soul troupe Phantom Limb.
