More amazing reasons to buy your BLOC tickets while you still can, as we welcome aboard a true superstar from over the pond - Mix Master Mike; named as one of the greatest DJs of all time by USA Today. With his new found love of hip-hop and his foray into scratching, Mike first got involved in the mobile DJ business playing house parties. After winning three consecutive DMC World Championships, it was rumored that Mix Master Mike was asked to retire from further competitions to give someone else a chance! Mikes most high-profile work has been with hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, working on albums Hello Nasty (1998) and To The 5 Borough (2004), also appearing on The Sound of Science retrospective anthology. Mix Master Mike is now effectively the Beastie Boys' resident DJ.
Add into the mix, Flying Lotus (born Steven Ellison), an experimental multi-genre artist from California. Combining a pulsing hum of simply sick beats, the blissed-out soundtracks of outerspace computer vistas and a cartoonists sense of colour, you can see why everyone wants his tracks. As well as running his Brainfeeder label, which boasts a roster of forward-thinking beat artists, FlyLo has also landed at BLOC!
Also joining the BLOC bandwagon as it rolls into Somerset we welcome aboard Joris Voorn, Deuce DJs feat: Marcel Dettmann & Shed, Omar-S, Subhead LIVE & Matt Whitehead LIVE (Cyantific).
Omar-S is a modern day Detroit maverick - one of a new generation of producers putting his own unique slant on the citys venerable techno tradition. His raw and soulful sound owes as much to classic Chicago house as the moody synth work of Derrick May et al. This will be Omar-S's first ever UK festival appearance!
As a deejay Joris Voorn has been spreading his wide range of techno since 1997. Besides doing his high energy live sets, releases have come thick and fast under Voorns Green label, named MPX_309'. The Dark Flower Magnolia Mix for Robert Babicz turned out to be 2009s summer anthem, a favourite of DJs like Sven Vath, Dubfire, Pete Tong and John Digweed.
Shrugging off media attention adds to Subheads anonymity, while intense live-performances have built devoted followings worldwide for anyone seeking art on the right angle: Punk rock while pure Techno! Subheads embrace and strangulation of hard-edged technology falls into no category or school, tipping their hat to Hip-Hop, Breakbeat, Freestyle and Electro as well as Techno. For spotters of Vogel, Landstrumm, Si Begg and Captain Beefheart, Subhead deeply delivers scalding but quirky and pumping raw funk-powered Hip-Hop hi-hat battles.
As part as Cyantific, Matt Whiteheads various hi-tec outings on Hospital Records quickly brought them massive acclaim and huge commercial success. Matts solo project takes years of studio experience and takes it in a new, funkier direction. Closer to electro, house and disco than his Cyantific output, this is sure to be the surprise hit of the festival.
