Nneka
Live at Cargo
Monday 14th July

Blessed by a voice dripping with shiver-inducing soul, Nigerian-born Nneka exudes a command of her craft with an individuality and intelligence rarely seen amongst today's crop of soulful chanteuses.

Following the critical acclaim of 2006 album 'Victim Of Truth' ("...as good as The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" - Sunday Times), 'No Longer At Ease' is released on 25th August. Nneka previews the album live on 14th July at Cargo, East London.

Born in Nigeria, she relocated 10,000 miles away to Germany to pursue a music career alongside a degree in Anthropology. Nneka's sound displays a heart-felt depth to her song-writing, distilling her experiences as an African on a cultural journey through continental Europe. Simultaneously recalling the wisdom of Erykah Badu's 'Baduizm', Jill Scott's consciousness and Mos Def's character, Nneka adds sprinkles of Fela Kuti and Bob Marley to paint a mesmerizing musical canvas all of her own.

After her debut EP release 'The Uncomfortable Truth', Nneka toured across Europe, commencing a long live schedule, performing for up to 6,000 people and supporting the likes of Femi Kuti, Seeed, Sean Paul and Gnarls Barkley. On the road, she dazzled the audiences from her adopted hometown of Hamburg to er, Holloway Prison, London.

Aching with soul steeped in positivity, 'No Longer At Ease' is the perfect example of the talented Nigerian's ability to merge sounds with an individuality that draws on both her African heritage and experiences in Europe.
