After two rammed parties, Sweatshop returns to East Village on Saturday July 12th with another blinding line up brimming with quality and, errrrr, strangely named DJs. The past two parties have seen the club at capacity, rocking to the stellar sounds of Optimo, Chris Duckenfield & DFA disco don Maurice Fulton. This time around we draft in the sonic skills of one of DFA's longest serving artists Marcus Lambkin AKA Shit Robot whose dubby disco and punk funk slots perfectly into the Sweatshop ethos of anything goes party music.
Marcus Lambkin began DJing in 1992 after moving to NYC from Dublin where he would become resident at the now legendary New York after hour spot Save The Robots. During this time Marcus met fellow Irishman Dominique Keegan and formed Plant Records, Plant Saturdays and Plant Bar. The latter went on be called the "coolest and loudest bar in New York City" by face magazine (10/02). It was at Plant Bar that Marcus and DFA / LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy started the Shit Robot party, named after James' crap robot drawing. In 2004, Marcus left Plant to work independently and moved to Stuttgart with his wife. Since moving to Stuttgart Marcus signed with DFA records and has released the dubbed out disco grooves "Wrong Galaxy/ Triumph!!" and "Chasm". All bloody good then.
Accompanying Shit Robot in the basement will be the Wild Geese, the brand new London production outfit comprising of Frank Tope, Dan Foat and genius knob toucher Nathan Boddy who will be dropping their new single this summer. Catch Tope N Foat fresh from their gig at Glastonbury, warming up for the Robot of Shit with an array of disco, house and SAS Film Soundtracks. Party on kids.
To round off the line up, and ice the top of our stupidly named DJ cake, we introduce the crack DJ assault squad known as Neds Atomic Breadbin. N.A.B comprises of a loosely knit team of people with normal names like Sophie, Dan, Tosh (not the one from the Bill) and David. When they combine they form a musical force stronger than 7 Philharmonic Orchestras. Be warned, and there you have it.
